I would recommend The Help by Kathryn Stockett. This book tells the story of what it is like to be a black maid in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960's. The maids in the book tell the stories of how they are treated and how white society acts and what goes on behind closed doors in the south. The book is the actual stories two black women and one white woman secretly write together. It is very humorous. It is hard to believe how black people where treated, and this book is an eye opener about discrimination. The book was made into a movie and it is also well worth your time.
